Barnwell County, South Carolina
One family. One patch of dirt. A century.

Humble Acres Organics is a family-owned composting operation in Blackville, South Carolina, in Barnwell County. The original farm was bought in1923 and has been worked byfive generations since.
Today it’s run by Tim McCormick, the fourth generation, and Kevin McCormick, the fifth — along with a good number of other family members. Organic compost and organic potting soil are what the farm makes now.
We started composting on this ground in 2006. Since then our compost has grown sod, produce, flowers and pasture for farms all over South Carolina — including turf for a certain football field in Clemson.
The whole idea is simple enough: feed the soil instead of feeding the plant, and let the biology do the work it has always done. We take what the region throws out and hand it back as something that grows things.
